Art Share: Help, I’m Stuck 3

This is both an art share and a texture resource recommendation.  Like last week, the pieces I’m sharing includes high res grunge textures created from paper scans and inkstamping.

I want to show you how adding different textures can alter the look and feel of a piece.  First, I took a version of a splatter painting that I made at the end of May:

And got these:

The base of the texture composites is from this set of paper textures, while the splatters and grungier elements of  came from this set of inkstamp grunge textures.  Most of the other detail is my own work, added with my go to grunge brushes.

Art Share: Help, I’m Stuck

This is both an art share and a texture resource recommendation.  The piece I’m sharing includes high res grunge textures created from paper scans and inkstamping.  I did this one to help me get “unstuck with my writing project, so you can see how my art overlaps with the writing.

The grungier elements of this one came from this set of inkstamp grunge textures that I got as a freebie from CreativeMarket a few weeks ago.

Gunslinger Quote Posters

I recently started (re)-reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. For the record, I did this with only vague recollection that a #DarkTowerMovie was coming in August.

The Gunslinger captured my imagination sometime in the spring of 1991 and has never let go.  If I had a visual, abstract representation of Roland’s world, the background of these posters would be it.  I know it doesn’t quite match the novel’s scenery but what a writer creates is dependent upon the reader to fill in the gaps, and this is what we have.

Free Social Media Banners + Motivation

Here are 4 Free Social Media Banners with PSD Template included.  These work well with short motivational phrases or one word.  Images are Public domain.

So, I felt a little nervous putting these out today.  They’re not my usual style, and seem off-brand.  We’re told in the online business world to stay consistent and on brand at all times.

But then I thought, “Fuck it, this is what I feel like sharing today.” So here you go.

I’ve been struggling a lot this year.  My grandfather died in February after a long fight with Alzheimer’s.  There have been a run of other family problems too.  I wrenched my shoulder badly in March and the fucker is still hurting.  (I use a wheelchair, so arm injuries are pretty serious and take forever to heal.)  I was sick and incapacitated for most of April.

May has been a wobbly process of getting back on my feet and trying to catch up.

If I’m being honest, the past 4 years or so has been a series of shitstorms, injuries, and loss.

So I’ve gotten used to riding the storm out, keeping my head above water, and then cleaning up to take another shot.  It’s not easy, though.  And I know I’m not the only one.

So what I want to tell you is, keep going.  It’s okay to want things.  It’s okay to reach for them.  It’s okay to be frustrated, and tired, and pissed, but you have to keep going, keep reaching, keep trying, because that’s the only way to the other side.  You have to keep finding hope because without it you’re well and truly fucked.

Piecing It Together 4

100×100 pixel icon textures were the first type of abstract art I tried. This set is cut from my recent art share, The 80s Threw Up. I added some paper texture to these for more depth.

I made icon textures for years before realizing that I did it as a form of meditation or therapy. My process is/was to take a larger artwork and crop it into uniform colored sets like this. I have way more than I’ll ever use, and I’m sorry that the 100×100 avatar/icon seems to be a dying art. I’ve decided to post these anyway because I’m using my “LJ” techniques to build a new style.
